In this pilot episode, we talk about the new iPods, the iPhone, the uncanny resemblance that Jose Mourinho has with Steve Jobs, and whether Apple is turning into the new Microsoft.

First!
I listened about 10 mins in and man you guys sound quite alike (I can tell the difference because I get to hear his sexy voice 5 days a week). Getting the rest of the podcast for my iPod.
Anyway, I found a utility (http://www.tuaw.com/2007/09/21/use-your-ipod-touch-as-second-rate-400-usb-stick/) that allows you to use the iPod Touch as a glorified portable hard disk (I whined to Arun about that). Must. Resist.
I’ll go listen to the rest of the podcast now. Later slackers…
(Podbean sure is annoying… Gave me and arcane error and then said I couldn’t use HTML tags.)

Thanks CY! This was the first free podcast hosting service which I found on Google. Plus it had the streaming player which I thought would be useful. Have to find a better hosting service. Hope you enjoyed the rest of the show.
And thanks Gautam, yup we’re hoping to follow a cycle of having the weekly show up every Saturday morning.

Fun show! Nice sound quality, good work. I think Steve Jobs’ reality distortion field needs a sound effect though.

Thanks Gary!
Hehe yeah, even if we don’t get the sound effects, like Ross said we need more cowbell.

Odeo is meant to be reasonable for this sort of thing isn’t it?
Or you could even roll your own using Dreamhost’s enormous storage and bandwith for when you’re successful and famous.
ingloriousslackers // Sep 25, 2007 at 9:43 pm
Hi Andy,
The Odeo service is also slow. You’re right - we have to roll a site of our own once there’s traffic. Dreamhost’s got a great package.. thanks for the suggestion!

Good one. When it started i felt like it was going too slow. But i kinda got hooked on to it later.
Liked the predictions like iphone will be phased out et al, i now have something new to talk about to my friends here. i havent even seen a live iphone yet btw.
guys do u want some help with the cover art? lemme know.
also why dont you make the comment form a little more roomy? I dont know if you are seeing this, i use IE 7 on windows XP. Its all cramped up.
Nice start i’m waiting for the coming episodes and seasons.

Yo Guys!
Awesome Stuff! So why not give a sneak into what’s going to happen in episode 2?
ingloriousslackers // Sep 26, 2007 at 5:08 am
Thanks Umesh! Hmm, tried viewing this site on IE6 and it seemed ok. Looks like we have to host our own page soon.
Naveen, thanks man! We could do a sneak preview but that would spoil the fun. I could tell you that it’s about films.. but I won’t! hehe.. anyway, the episode should be out on Saturday.

Early Adopters... Hah. // Oct 2, 2007 at 4:19 am
Looks like the early adopters (aka dipshits-ready-to-wait-in-line-for half-a-day) are getting royally screwed over by the guys at 1 Infinite Loop. Hehe. Lovely.

iPhones Suck and Early Adopters…Hah.
If we may address you as one person, iPhone-Hater…
Cool ad by Nokia. And Apple is wrong by closing off all third-party developers - we agree. But if we compare the number of iPhones in the market to the number of Nokia phones, it’s a little too early to open it up. Apple’s probably focusing on getting the phone adopted by most telcos across the world. And Nokia’s focusing on all the wrong things - to date, we feel there’s not a single Nokia phone that’s even comparable to the iPhone. Cool campaign nonetheless - may the best phone win!
You know who I am // Oct 2, 2007 at 9:57 pm
I agree with you on the fact that there is still no phone that might come close to being as cool as the iPhone in terms of look and feel, but functionality-wise, no one has come close to the reliability, uniformity and trustworthiness of a Nokia.
I don’t really agree to the fact that the iPhone needs telco support. If “early adopters” are willing to wait in line, all phases up to the early majority and maybe beyond will buy it regardless of telco-support. Keeping it open is a step that Apple should take to be loyal to the group that has supported them till now. Suddenly being corporate bi*ches won’t help make any friends. Apple also has this image which won’t help it with the corporate crowd, esp since the iPhone’s main claim to fame is a 3.5″ surgical glass touch screen interface and a snazzy UI.
So I think the iPhone being locked down is just a plain stupid idea. And turning away their first round of customers when they ask for help is just shooting themselves in the foot.
About Nokia focussing on all the wrong things - what are we talking about here? A phone or a geek-toy/fashion-accessory? If you said phone, Nokia is what everybody else aspires to be.
That said, it would be interesting to see Apple and Nokia fight it out for the spot of top dog.
May the best phone win!

Zanks for the comments.
Phones being locked down to telco’s is not new. *Every* single phone released in the US has to go through that. Even for the Treos, I had to wait for a good 6 months before the unlocked version was out (it wasn’t out straightaway). Plus the other reason why telco’s is important is that a very useful feature on the iPhone - Visual Voicemail won’t work unless you have telco support. Plus if you don’t have decent network speeds that will again ruin the iPhone experience. I know for a fact that iPhone on GPRS sucks - so as long as EDGE is not present, iPhone in its current state will become crippled.
Regarding the developer lockdown yes I agree - but I think that it’s just a matter of time before they release a proper SDK. There’s other stuff involved like getting a support team in place, etc. They even leaked something to that effect yesterday or so.
With regards to Nokia, I people are finding it hard to believe that the iPhone is on a different plane of user experience. Nokia have been great at executing in the *present*, but the iPhone is the future.
